You can add some of those healthy foods into your “diet”:
  • nuts ☞ For example, placing 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts on your cereal will add 200 calories to your daily intake.
  • nut butters ☞ Nut butters such as peanut, almond or soy nut are high in calories and unsaturated fat. It can be used on crackers, bread, fruit or pretzels. For example, teaspoon/10g spread over a slice of bread carries 62.3 calories.
  • olive oil ☞ Cook with it, add it to foods, put it on bread or vegetables. Olive oil is high in calories—just 1 tablespoon contains 120 calories.
  • mix wheat germ ☞ Stirring 1/4 cup of wheat germ into pudding or yogurt will add 120 calories to your meal.
  • avocado/guacamole ☞ One medium-sized avocado contains 161 calories. Avocado can be added to soups, sandwiches and pureed foods, as well as a dip for vegetables and chips.
  • bananas ☞ Add banana to yogurt/smoothie/oatmeal, 1 medium/118g banana carries 115.6 calories.
  • sweet potato ☞ Add a baked sweet potato as a side dish. One large baked sweet potato, eaten plain with the skin, contains 162 calories. Adding low-fat yogurt or a dab of butter to the potato will increase the calorie count.
  • dark chocolate ☞ Treat yourself with square of dark chocolate, it contains 145 calories per (29 gram) square.
  • juices and smoothies ☞ You can add some calories to your daily intake by drinking natural juices:
    * orange juice (1 glass/200ml = 87.7kcal; 3 glasses 260kcal)
    * pineapple juice (1 glass/200ml = 100kcal; 3 glasses 300kcal)
    * grapefruit juice (1 glass/200ml = 76kcal; 3 glasses 228kcal) 
    * apple juice (1 glass/200ml = 94kcal; 3 glasses 283kcal)  
  • protein powder, hummus, granola bars, dried fruits, whole grain pasta and bread, eggs, etc.
